I know that we are having a hard time right now holding any catchdog trials or doing any catchdog titling.
I think that we all agree that the threat of arrest for doing something that has been tradition since before there was a United States of America is very sad. I hope that it will all work out and that everyone that has had their life turned into a nightmare will have their life, property and happiness returned to them.
I did have an idea that might work in the short term until all of these legal issues can be worked out. Could we hold Catchdog Trials/Titling/Testing on a Tribal Reservation (Native American/Indian Reservations)? It is my understanding that these Reservations are in most ways their own nations. All of the laws that are being used against us should not apply on a Reservation.
I am in no way saying that we should give up the fight in the States, but just saying that we might still be able to hold catches on a Reservation now and face no legal action.
I was wondering if any of this could work and what some of the more experienced catchdog people think about it.
It might give some of the more green and novice dogs a chance to train for catching a hog in a controled and a much safer way. Better than putting them on a hog for the first time in the middle of a forest/swamp -- a 2 hour hike from the nearest road. Not a good thing when you might have to carry out a hog and a hurt dog (at least if you are out of shape and getting to be an old guy like me). I would much rather know how my dog was going to do on a hog before going on a hunt by myself.
Anyway, I would love to hear what people think about the Reservations. Thanks.
