Went out with the dogs last night, my friend Brian Inman was supposed to join me, but couldn't - some ridiculous reason like his students needed his help with some school project or something - COME ON MAN WHERE ARE YOUR PRIORITIES?
So I went solo again...
Put out just before dark set in, had 4 dogs on the ground hunting plus my AB catch dog Ruby on the leash. Started walking towards the east, we were only out about 15 minutes or so when I heard my pup "Coco" open up - joined shortly afterwards by the 3 other dogs. Coco is a pup I got from Brandee and Chris Krpec (plott cross). I rushed in with my catch dog to see what they'd bayed up and found them near an old tank that they've been using as a wallow. It was a good little boar (just under 200 pounds I'd guess) and he was right at the edge of the water. I turned the catch dog loose and she slammed into him driving him back into the water. The dogs all latched on and the hog drug them out into deeper water.. Ruby stayed with the hog, sometimes taking it under water - the other dogs were swimming along with them barking and biting and swimming. I kept hoping that they'd work themselves closer to the edge of the tank - but they just kept moving farther and farther out into the water. I decided my best chance of making sure nothing drowned was to swim out with them. It was more wading than swimming - but pretty quickly I was up to my arm pits in water, holding onto the boar's back legs and dragging him back towards the shore. Finally I got him and all the dogs out of the water and stuck him with the knife.
While I was taking these pictures, my main strike dog Boudreau took off and was gone for about a half hour.. I wanted to go back to the truck because I was soaking wet and tired, but boudreau had other ideas - I waited for awhile and then heard him bayed up far off towards the south end of the pasture.. the other 3 dogs joined him shortly and Ruby and I made it to them eventually to find a good little meat sow in the bay (about 100 pounds).. thought about tieing her up and dragging her out for about 20 seconds then thought better of it and killed her right there.

James - I'm sorry, but the insert image doesn't seem to be working! I've tried with several services, and can't make it work. Had to use the URLs instead. If you'd help and get the photos in this post I'd appreciate it. I'd also love to know how to do it myself , as I know others would too.
