U.S. Sportsmen's Alliance
Beware of Businesses that Back the Anti’s
Sportsmen often contact the U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance to learn of companies that are known to support animal rights groups. The following businesses are currently running promotional campaigns for animal rights organizations.
EcoISP
EcoISP donates 50 percent of the profits from an individual’s subscription to an environmental group of his choice. In one of its marketing efforts, it claims that a customer signing on and donating to PETA will be satisfied knowing that half of his subscription profits will support animal rights and animal welfare. EcoISP forgot to mention that the funds could also go to support animal rights terrorism.
In its attempts to end animal use, PETA donated $1,500 to the Earth Liberation Front (ELF) – a noted domestic terrorist organization. In addition, it has allied with Animal Liberation Front – the sister organization of ELF - and paid legal fees for convicted terrorists Roger Troen and Rodney Coronado.
Sportsmen who are looking for a quality ISP should give Outdoors Unlimited a try. Outdoors Unlimited is a unique and affordable Internet Service Provider (ISP) devoted to protecting the rights of sportsmen. U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance and U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance Foundation members receive a discount on activation fees and a portion of the $19.95 monthly access fee can be donated to our organization. To subscribe, call toll-free (877) 922-4868 or subscribe online by visiting www.outdoorsunlimited.net.
Saab Continues Support of Anti-Hunting Group
Saab Cars USA remains in partnership with HSUS. The car company contributes 10 percent of every purchase from its Pet Gear collection to the anti-hunting organization.
Sportsmen are encouraged to contact Saab and express their displeasure with the company’s support of America’s largest anti-hunting group. Contact Debra Kelly-Ennis, President of Saab Cars USA, Inc., 4405 International Blvd # A, Norcross, GA 30093-3205. Phone: (770) 279-0100
Build-A-Bear Workshop Partners with HSUS
The Build-A-Bear Workshop has disregarded comments from sportsmen opposing its support of The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS). Build-A-Bear Workshop donates $1 from its 16” Golden Retriever, 16” Westie and 16” Black Labrador sales to HSUS.
Sportsmen should tell Build-A-Bear Workshop that promoting HSUS does not help animals in shelters, but it does put America’s outdoor heritage at risk. Send your comments to Maxine Clark, Build-A-Bear Workshop CEO at (88Cool 560-2327. Comments may also be sent to Maxine Clark, CEO, Build-A-Bear Workshop, Inc., 1954 Innerbelt Business Center Dr., St. Louis, MO 63114. Fax (314) 423-8188.
PETsMART
In January 2003, the U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance reported that the charitable arm of PETsMART made a $15,000 contribution to HSUS for spay and neuter programs. The U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance does not take issue with the spaying and neutering of pets. However, every dollar that HSUS receives from corporate America to fund such programs represents money that is made available for its national campaigns to end hunting, trapping and fishing.
To emphasize that point, according to a recent article in Worth Magazine, HSUS brought in $65 million in revenue in 2000, but gave out only $1.6 million in cash grants to animal protection groups. In fact, Worth reports that the American Institute of Philanthropy “gives the group a D for spending as much as 53 percent of its expenses on fundraising.”
Sportsmen and sportswomen should express their dissatisfaction with PETsMART’s support of HSUS by contacting Philip Francis, President & CEO, PETsMART, Inc., 19601 N. 27th Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85027; Phone: 800-738-1385. You can also send comments online from the following web address: www.petsmart.com/servlet/Mailer.
PETCO
In March 2003, the charitable arm of PETCO sponsored the HSUS’s National Association for Humane and Environmental Education (NAHEE) Adopt a Teacher program in 500 elementary schools across the country. The program is part of the group’s plan to introduce children, kindergarten through grade six, to the animal rights movement.
The Adopt a Teacher program places the HSUS publication KIND News into the hands of teachers and students on a monthly basis during the school year. It provides classrooms with materials that promote the HSUS and its agenda.
Take Action! Sportsmen should contact PETCO and let the company know that its support of an anti-hunting group is unacceptable. Contact Brian Devine, President & CEO, PETCO Animal Supplies, Inc., 9125 Rehco Rd., San Diego, CA 92121. Phone: (85Cool 453-7845 ext. 3046 Fax: (85Cool 453-6585.
From the Humane Society of the United States 2003 Annual Report:
